A healthy lifestyle is most commonly defined by how physically healthy you are, correct? For example, if you have a cold or are sick, you are considered not healthy. If you have a life altering disease such as cancer or aids, you are not healthy. Now does this mean that it is all
physical? Absolutely not! Your well being is also made up by your mental state. Think about this, the kind of music you listen to generally affects your mood. Here is a perfect example: I listened to Hard Rock as a teen
(most teenagers do) and was very crazy, a trouble maker, energetic, and fun! Now that I have matured in age, I listen to softer music and I am more relaxed, laid back, careless, and less energetic.
Now focus on music and creating your mood. Again, going back to the heavy rock, how does that make you feel when you hear it? I can tell you from experience that heavy music gets my blood rushing, my foot pounding, my head pulsing. It kicks me into overdrive! Now, how do you feel when you listen to light music? Let me take you to the opposite extreme and use classical music as an example. While listening to a song composed by eethoven, how do you feel? I am generally feeling very classy, smart, makes me feel like learning, reading a novel, become a better person. It is a totally different mood it puts me in. How does it make you feel?
So how does this make you live healthier? The correct kind of music can help your mood and attitude get better, creating a positive and happy outlook on life. It is truth that a happier person lives an extended life and is in better health than someone who is always concerned about something, upset, and unhappy. The human body was not made to handle stress all the time. That is where disease comes from. Look at the word, dis ease. That means there is not ease in the human body, mental stress can be the cause. Music could be the fix.
Music can be enjoyed by all. How great do you feel when you hear your favorite song come on the iPod or radio? How does it make you feel when you hear a song you do not like? Not that good right?
Let us talk about movies. What about scary flix, what kind of soundtrack do they have? Some play really scary high pitched, quick paced scary music, others have gotten smart and play NOTHING musically. This is smart because mentally, without music your mind wonders and it allows them to put more suspense behind the movie. Do you remember the Blair Witch Project? It was a low budget flick, and done with no soundtrack. Somehow it still was one of the most popular and watched horror flix of the time.
What about your feel good flix? Next time you get a chance, watch Disneys Enchanted? It is a musical all in its own that has light, fluffy, dance in the street, kiss your neighbor, sweet music. It makes me feel very caring
and uncharacteristically in the mood to hug a chipmunk. The producers knew what they were doing with this. As with most Disney movies the soundtrack is crucial. It puts the movie watches in a positive mind frame and gives them something to look forward to.
What about action flix, what type of soundtrack do they have? I would say techno, heavy, fast paced rock soundtrack? Think about one of the best action movies ever The Matrix. The theme song is a bass guitar with a
fast paced riff. It puts you in the mind frame to do some damage! Not necessarily a positive attitude, but still, makes me happy for the time being.
So, how do you tie this all in to being healthy? Find out what makes you happy and concentrate your efforts on that sort of music. Do not try to trick yourself; you know what it is that makes you feel the best. Enjoy the
knowledge that you now have on living just a little bit healthier with music and share this with your friends.
